Engineered for Strength and Stability
Bambu Lab PA6‑CF is built for applications where performance matters. Its Nylon 6 base, enhanced with carbon fiber reinforcement, results in a filament that excels in strength and rigidity. In dry conditions, it offers a significant mechanical advantage — delivering roughly 18 % higher bending strength and 24 % greater stiffness compared to Bambu’s standard PA‑CF. This makes it ideal for load-bearing parts, mechanical assemblies, or fixtures that must retain dimensional accuracy under stress.
Thermal Performance and Dry-State Durability
With a heat deflection temperature of 186 °C (tested at 0.45 MPa), PA6‑CF is well-suited for use in hot and demanding environments. Its impact resistance and vibration damping are excellent when the material remains dry. However, like most nylon-based filaments, it is highly sensitive to moisture, and performance drops significantly if exposed to humidity. Therefore, it is critical to store and print the filament in a dry state. Bambu Lab recommends pre-drying the filament at 80 °C for 8–12 hours before use and maintaining low humidity during storage with sealed containers and desiccant.
Printing Recommendations
PA6‑CF requires specific hardware and preparation for optimal results. An enclosed 3D printer, such as the Bambu Lab X1, X1 Carbon, or P1S, is necessary to maintain a consistent environment during printing. Open-frame printers like the A1 or A1 Mini are not recommended. Due to the abrasive nature of the carbon fibers, a hardened-steel nozzle is essential — preferably in sizes between 0.4 and 0.8 mm. The use of a smooth or textured PEI build plate is supported, but it should always be treated with a water-based glue stick to ensure reliable bed adhesion.
Practical Considerations and Applications
This filament is not compatible with the AMS or AMS Lite due to moisture sensitivity and material rigidity. Additionally, prints should be removed from the bed within two hours to avoid difficulties caused by softening from ambient moisture. For thicker parts that may absorb water over time, a surface treatment such as wax or paint can help reduce water uptake and protect the mechanical properties. PA6‑CF is particularly suitable for functional prototypes, automotive components, tooling, brackets, and high-stress mechanical parts.
