DIAGNOSIS, SERVICING & REPAIR

FDM repairs start when the showroom opens

A failed print doesn’t always mean you need a new FDM machine—or a box full of parts. From the showroom opening, guide prices will be: fault diagnosis £29.95, deducted from the final bill when you proceed with the repair; repairs typically from £39.95, with more involved work from £59.95; additional labour £45 per hour; and health checks from £59.95. Parts will be quoted separately before work begins. Resin printer repair pricing will be added when that service launches later.

FDM fault diagnosis

We investigate extrusion failures, blocked hotends, poor bed adhesion, levelling problems, temperature errors, noisy motion systems, electrical issues and inconsistent print quality. A failed print, photograph or error message can often provide useful clues and shorten the diagnostic process.

FDM printer maintenance & servicing

Regular care can improve reliability and catch wear before it causes a larger failure. We can clean and inspect the machine, check belts, bearings, wiring and motion components, adjust the mechanics and replace suitable worn service parts where replacements are available.

FDM setup & calibration

New printer assembly and calibration can be daunting, especially when the first print does not match the brochure. We can check the build, guide firmware and slicer setup, level the bed, calibrate key settings and help you reach a dependable first-print baseline.

COMMON PRINTER PROBLEMS

Support when online troubleshooting has run out

Advice videos and forums are useful until several symptoms overlap or a suggested fix introduces a new problem. A hands-on inspection lets us look at the whole machine and the way the hardware, filament and settings interact.

Prints will not start reliably

Bed adhesion, probing, first-layer inconsistency, homing errors and levelling problems can all stop a job before it has properly begun. We check the fundamentals in a sensible order rather than changing several settings at once.

Filament is not feeding correctly

Clicking extruders, partial clogs, heat creep, worn drive components and poorly matched temperatures can look very similar. We trace the material path and help identify whether the cause is mechanical, thermal or material-related.

Movement sounds wrong

Grinding, juddering, layer shifts and rough axis movement may point to belts, bearings, pulleys, motors, wiring or obstructions. Early diagnosis can help prevent a minor adjustment becoming a more expensive failure.

Print quality has slowly declined

Stringing, weak layers, dimensional errors and uneven surfaces are not always caused by one setting. We consider nozzle condition, filament storage, extrusion, cooling, mechanics and slicer choices together.

OUR PROCESS

Clear advice before work begins

Our aim is to make the repair process understandable. You remain in control of the decision, and we will not quietly continue into chargeable work without discussing the likely route first.

1

Tell us the symptoms

Share the make and model, when the fault began, what changed immediately beforehand and anything you have already tried. Photographs, short videos, error messages and failed prints can all help us prepare.

2

Agree the next step

If the printer needs a physical inspection, we’ll agree how it should be handed over or delivered and exactly what to include. Please do not bring or send a machine until those arrangements have been confirmed by email or text.

3

Diagnosis and approval

We inspect and test the machine, then explain the likely repair, any parts that may be required and whether the work is economically sensible. We agree the next step with you before proceeding.

Before sending or handing over a printer

• Contact us first so we can confirm the machine is suitable to inspect

• Note the make, model and any visible error codes

• Remove loose tools, resin, unsecured filament and personal files

• Include the correct power cable and any proprietary adapters if requested

• Send photos of failed prints first; include samples or filament only if requested

• Tell us about modifications, replacement parts or firmware changes

• Agree a safe handover plan in advance for large, enclosed or unusually heavy machines

Repairability and parts availability vary by manufacturer, model and age. Some sealed electronics, discontinued components or heavily modified machines may limit what can be done. We will be honest when further work is unlikely to offer good value, and we can discuss replacement or upgrade options instead.

WHO WE HELP

From a first setup to a high-performance machine

You do not need the correct technical term for a fault, but detailed technical information is welcome when you have it. We can begin with “it stopped feeding” or discuss hotend flow, extrusion, firmware, motion limits and the supporting changes required by a premium upgrade.

New owners

Get help assembling, checking and calibrating a first machine, understanding routine maintenance and building confidence before experimenting with more advanced materials or settings.

Experienced makers & modified systems

Get a second pair of eyes on recurring faults, performance limits or a planned hotend, extruder, nozzle or control-system change. We will consider compatibility and the complete setup so a premium component does not simply move the bottleneck elsewhere.

Schools & businesses

Reliable printers matter when lessons, prototypes or customer work depend on them. We can help assess faults, maintenance needs and the practical value of repair versus replacement.
